It’s all fun and games til we lose someone to a cornice collapse! Just kidding, this was a hot, grueling climb to the snow for those of us accustomed to PNW Winter temps but the views & the company made for an awesome evening atop Bandera. We even had another Thursday night conditioning group ahead of us to leave nicely kicked steps in the Spring time slush. We celebrated our successful summit with spirits & cookies, then basked in a beautiful sunset as we raced down the mountain to enjoy Kim’s hospitality at the Pour House.

♫ Reluctantly crouched at the trail head sign,
muscles pumping and thumping in time.
the dash clock flashes, the altimeters go up.
churning and burning, they yearn for the top.
they deftly maneuver and muscle for rank,
fuel burning fast on an empty tank.
reckless and wild, they pour through the turns.
their prowess is potent and secretly stern.
as they speed to the summit, the miles go down.
the goats get up and they get out of town.
the trail is empty except for those who ran,
still hiking and striving as fast as they can.
the sun has gone down and the moon has come up,
and long ago pre-NAB left for the top.
but they’re driving and striving and hugging each turn.
and thinking of a mountain for which they still burn.
They’re going the distance, they’re going for speed ♪
