All good things must come to an end…

And this week we will be sharing the celebration of Thursday nights atop a peak with all the TNAB ‘family’.

Rattlesnake Lake and Ledges is the venue for our final TNAB to mark the Equinox and close the 2009 season of nocturnal mountain adventures. Trail head meet up at 5:45 and a rapid ascent to the top begins at 6pm with a group shot for posterity.

Then it’s back to the lake to share some eats & treats, stories and future plans. There will be at least one BBQ at the lake for a post hike tailgate party so please bring whatever sates your stomach to be grilled up.
All family and friends are welcome, trail travelers & lake splashers, 2 leggers & tail waggers alike.
Sharing food is always welcome though not officially organized (you know by now how TNAB rolls: loose & spontaneous).

Questions, ideas, and menus can be shared in the comment section of the blog if you so desire, we will be discussing tshirts in the coming week as well.

We hope Mother Nature will put on a fantastic sunset show for those who patiently waited for our sweaty smiling faces to arrive home post Pour House each week.

Thanks to each of you for being…
TNAB!

Silver Peak Information:

silver-peak-route

Distance & Elevation: 6 miles round trip and 2000′ gain

NOAA Weather: click here

Driving Directions:

Going in via Windy Pass (Road 9070 that winds thru the Hyak ski area).  Road goes thru a gate and past a small sewage plant.  Drive up the road for about 5 1/2 miles until the terrain flattens out in a large clear cut area.  PCT trail cuts thru here.  Trail is off to the left/south.  It is just beyond the other minor trailhead that goes off to the right to Mt Catherine.

Trailhead is around 3850′ elevation.  Subtle turn up the hill to get to the saddle between Tinkham, Abiel and Silver; usually rock cairn on right side of trail around 4300′.  It is only about 1 1/2 miles to the turn up the hillside; easy to miss so be sure to keep an eye out for it.

First Time TNABer on Kendal

magnum photo used with permission, please respect all copyrights ~ Torch Team, next generation ;^)

Thanks to the Pre-NABers and Dog Wranglers for being considerate of the rules & regulations of the mountains as our adventures extend into the Alpine Lakes Wilderness Areas. TNAB and trail etiquette go hand in hand, we appreciate everyone’s cooperation. Thank goodness there is no speed limit out there!

Trip report, comments & additional pictures on NWHikers.net ~ special thanks to Yukon222 for this week’s write-up

Kendall Peak Information:

kendall-via-commonwealth

Our intended route via Commonwealth Creek – red track on the map.  Green line is the main (much longer) route via the PCT. Park at the main trail head and head up the PCT trail for 50′ or so.  Look for unofficial boot path off to your left through brush.  Expect 1 or 2 creek crossings farther in before rejoining the PCT trail halfway up the mountain.  Just past the set of switchbacks around 5300′, leave the trail and climb steep grassy slope to the ridge line a 100 yards left/north of the summit.  Simple ridge walk over to the summit.

Distance & Elevation:  9.2 miles round trip and 3050′ gain

NOAA Weather: click here

Driving Directions:

NW Forest Pass required to park

to-pct

We’ll be taking off from the main PCT trailhead at Snoq Pass where you take the Alpental exit but then turn right on the small forest road near the highway, before you start heading very far towards Alpental. Park at the lower area with the clearly signed trail head.
